Description
Item for auction is a 324.11g specimen of the Odessa meteorite that was originally found in 1922, in the southwestern part of Ector County southwest of the city of Odessa, Texas. The Odessa meteorite crater is the largest of several smaller craters in the immediate area that were formed by the impact of thousands of octahedrites (a type of iron meteorite) that fell in prehistoric times. This specimen is uncleaned, preserving the patina accrued on its surface during the time spent on this planet, and was recovered by University of New Mexico Institute for Meteoritics curator Lincoln Lapaz (see collection number painted on the stone). This patina also serves to protect the specimen from further oxidation or degradation-this is a stable piece. The shape is truly unique and allows you to display it in a number of different configurations, each showcasing a noteworthy specimen in your collection. These Odessa individuals are abundant with a total known weight of 1.6 metric tons recovered, but you don't see many of them on the market or in collections anywhere. Grab this one to add to your collection, you can rest assured that I did! This meteorite comes with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale. Big Kahuna combines shipping, and addresses must be in the English language, to facilitate customs input at US Postal Service. Non-English addresses cannot be shipped, and may incur additional fees for handling. We no longer ship to China or Italy.*Please be aware that the current COVID circumstances may have an impact on delivery times of domestic and international shipments.
