Description
This offering is for a 33.9gram UNCUT Ghardaia Lunar meteorite recently recovered from the new Lunar strewn-field in Algeria. Other fragments from this strewn-field have already entered the market, and some dealers are now offering cut slices and endcut specimens. But, again, this offering is for those collectors who are seeking a whole UNCUT individual stone. This is the latest Lunar meteorite find from NorthWest Africa, and has been classified as Feldspathic Breccia, but with a rare composition described as "feldspathic mesostasis" (
lithic-fragments of, basalt, gabbro, and impact-melt, set in a glassy groundmass, [or quenched melt matrix] of feldspathic composition
). Essentially, an impact-melt in everything, but the actual name.
These Lunar stones have been found over a wide area (strewn-field) -- from the Hassi Lahdjar area in the Ouargla Province, which is 70km away from the city of Ouargla, and extends to the NW, all the way into the neighboring Ghardaia Province near El Guerrara, where the Ghardaia stones were found, which is 130km northwest of Ouargla city in Algeria.
This Lunar stone was found at the NW end of that strewn-field, and is one of the later found stones of the already classified Ghardaia lunar meteorites.
