    Description

Antique Japanese Meiji Era c1920's Chestnut Wood Haribako Sewing Tansu 12.5" x 10.5" x 7 3/4" This is a Taisho era (c1920's) Haribako (sewing box) with an arrangement of four exterior drawers. The lidded top section is divided into two areas. This type of tansu chest was used to store valuables as well as equipment for the person of the house to do repairs on Kimono and bedding. This haribako has Chestnut wood face and paulownia (kiri) wood drawer interiors.. Great skill was used in the workmanship in this chest. It is made with all wooden pin and dovetail construction. This chest has been well used yet well loved, with the exception of a few minor signs of past use, it remains in very fine condition throughout. All drawers open and close.. Very solidly built, a great piece of Japanese history and makes a great jewelry box or a classic desk top organizer today..
The interior of the drawers are very clean.  The bottom drawer has a crack. Please examine all photos.
