In the mid-1960s Hawk, a plastic model kit manufacturer, decided to get in on the slot car craze sweeping the country.  They took a short cut by more or less copying Monogram's first-generation 1/32 scale brass chassis with just a few changes to let the bodies from Hawk's 50-cent 1/32 scale car kits fit over it.  The chassis for sale here is new old stock, still in its original bubble packaging.  As far as we can tell, all the parts are still in the package.  The chassis will accept 60s era 16-D motors and, with a bit of modification, present-day FK130 motors such as the JK Falcon. Adding conversion bushings at the rear plus soldering a length of 1/8" o.d. brass tubing into the front axle mounting will allow use of 3/32" axles and
many of the current-production wheels, tires, and gears for 1/32 scale slot cars. The bushings are readily available online or at your local slot car raceway, if you have one.  The 60s Hawk car kits still turn up frequently, too, though now they cost quite a bit more than 50 cents.
You can build a car that brings together the best of vintage and recent slot car technology and still looks mostly period-authentic.
