Find: 1974
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6)
History
: Found by an anonymous (now deceased) person in 1974 about a mile southeast of where the Villa Nueva State Park is now located, southeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Some time later the man’s niece brought the specimen (in two pieces that fit together) to a mineral shop (Mama’s Minerals) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where it was on display for many years. In November 2014 the smaller piece was acquired from the shop owner by Blaine
Reed
.
Petrography
: (A. Irving,
UWS
and P. Carpenter,

) The specimen is extensively recrystallized with rare remnant chondrules. Primary kamacite has been partly altered to goethite and thin veinlets of reddish-brown goethite crosscut the studied thin section. Other accessory phases are sodic plagioclase, taenite, low-Ti chromite, troilite and merrillite.
