Description
The specimen in this listing is Tyro L6 chondrite Meteorite, Montgomery Co., Kansas USA weighs.58 grams and is 11 x 9 x 2.5 mm in size. It will come as pictured in a display box along with a specimen / certificate of authenticity from the Kansas Meteorite Society.
In 1966 a single stone of 895 grams was recovered just outside the town of Tyro, in Montgomery Co., Kansas by a man while excavating in a farm field.
The stone was kept in the family until 4 October 2008 when it was recognized as a meteorite and acquired by the Kansas Meteorite Society.
Tyro was classified at UCLA by Alan Rubin in 2009 L6 S3 W2.
Its mean olivine composition is Fa24 and mean low-Ca Pyroxene composition is o FS20.3.
The main mass now resides in the collection of the Kansas Meteorite Society in Wichita, Kansas.
The meteorite was a single stone weighing 895 grams, 75% crusted found just outside of the small town of Tyro, Kansas by a man excavating in a field. Tyro L6 chondrite; Montgomery Co., Kansas USA; 1966: TKW 895 grams.
There are no existing Kansas
meteorites that have been recovered within a 30 mile radius of Tyro so pairing out.
