Brief Background on Dugan.
Thomas Dugan and his cousin Harry Northwood started out as employees at the Hobbs-Brockunier firm in Wheeling, West Virginia. Eventually, Harry would form the
Northwood Glass Company
of Wheeling, West Virginia and Thomas would form the
Dugan Glass Company of Indiana, Pennsylvania
. Both companies were kingpins of the carnival and opalescent glass market in the early 1900's.
Condition.
This bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. It has the typical straw marks (shearing tool marks) and internal air bubbles commonly associated with the hand manufacturing and tweaking of old carnival glass.
The peach opal irirdescence is likewise very good and very pretty.
It is not easy to find especially in this pattern and handgrip form.
{Photo taken indoors on black granite, no flash.}
This is a wonderful example of Dugan. It would go nicely with any collection of old carnival and opalescent pressed glass and Victorian EAPG, e.g., Northwood, Jefferson, Fenton, Imperial, Millersburg, Dugan, Westmoreland, and others.
